For its 20th anniversary, Pan’s Labyrinth is released in 4K: trailer
Guillermo del Toro’s fantastical masterpiece returns to theaters in a restored version supervised by the filmmaker.
Twenty years after having amazed the public, Pan’s Labyrinth is about to return to the big screen. On this occasion, a brand new trailer has just been unveiled to accompany the event re-release of Guillermo del Toro’s film, entirely restored in 4K under the supervision of the director himself.
This new version will be offered for the first time in 4K, HDR and 3D, offering an even more spectacular immersion in the magical universe imagined by the Mexican filmmaker.
The new trailer edited for the event and narrated by Guillermo del Toro, immediately plunges viewers back into the tale: “It is said that a long time ago, in an underground kingdom where neither lies nor suffering exist, there lived a princess who dreamed of the human world…“
Written, directed and co-produced by Guillermo del Toro, the film is set in Franco’s Spain in 1944. The film follows Ofelia (Ivana Baquero), a young girl convinced that she is the reincarnation of a princess from an underground kingdom. While her cruel stepfather hunts down Republican resistance fighters and her mother’s health deteriorates, she discovers a mysterious labyrinth where a strange faun reveals her true destiny.
Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2006, the film quickly became a huge critical and public success. Produced for 19 million dollars, it grossed nearly 84 million worldwide, before establishing itself as one of the greatest fantasy films of the 21st century.
Pan’s Labyrinth will return to theaters on October 9, 2026 in North America. Good news for France: Studiocanal has acquired international rights to this new 4K restoration and is planning a theatrical release in France in fall 2026, alongside the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and the Benelux. However, no precise date has yet been communicated.
