Future villain of Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts is sentenced to 6 months in prison

The Belgian actor was convicted by the Beringen police court after driving without a license on several occasions.

Hard blow for Matthias Schoenaerts, at a particularly sensitive moment for his career.

The Belgian actor, expected in the role of the villain Krem in the next film Supergirl from DC has just been sentenced to six months in prison by the Beringen police court.

According to information relayed by the Belgian press, the 47-year-old actor received a prison sentence, a fine of 4,000 euros and a one-year license disqualification for driving on several occasions without a valid license. A judgment rendered in his absence.

The investigation recalls that Matthias Schoenaerts had been checked without a license twice in Pelt, Belgium, in April 2024, while riding his motorcycle. The actor was already banned from driving in Antwerp since September 2021, after testing positive for drugs. To regain his right to drive, he had to retake rehabilitation tests and the license exam — which he never did.

The fact that this was his second conviction in three years, and that the actor had appeared eleven times before the police court in the past, weighed heavily in the decision. His lawyer announced that he would appeal.

The day after the verdict, Schoenaerts reacted, indirectly, on Instagram. He shared a video of Mike Tyson talking about loyalty, betrayal and adversity, accompanied by an unambiguous message: “People are opportunists.”

In any case, the timing is not good for the actor, while he will play a very prominent role next year on the screens, in the film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. A supervillain role in a superhero blockbuster that could boost his career in Hollywood, he who has already filmed, for example, with Kate Winslet, in The Diet for HBO. DC Studios has not yet made any comment on the conviction. Supergirl will be released next Wednesday June 24 in France.
