Gollum launches the production of his film The Lord of the Rings in New Zealand
Andy Serkis announces his departure for Middle -earth.
Imminent return to mid -earth for Andy Serkis.
The actor and director confirmed that he was flying this month for New Zealand to start the preparation and filming of the next film derived from the Ringsand from the universe of Tolkien, entitled : The Hunt for Gollum. It will be the first live-action film of the franchise since The Hobbit: the battle of the five armies (2014).
Warner Bros. fixed the date of release in theaters on December 17, 2027. This leaves the team for two years to film this new large-scale adventure and ensure the (long) post-production. Serkis entrusts to Metro:
“I am very enthusiastic about the idea of going back into this universe. I am leaving for New Zealand this Saturday, September 6, we will start the preparation and start working on it, since I realize. I am delighted to find this family with which I collaborated for many years, and this character from which I can’t escape …”
Announced in the summer of 2024 and first scheduled for 2026, The Hunt for Gollum was postponed at the end of 2027. Serkis will of course take up the role of Gollum which he played in motion capture since The two towers (2002). The actor had already passed behind the camera successfully to film Mowgli: The legend of the jungle And Venom: let there be carnage.
This new Tolkian project is produced by Peter Jackson, alongside his historic collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Warner insisted that the trio would be involved “at each stage of development”.
On the casting side, Gollum should cross the road to Gandalf and Frodon again. Indeed Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood will be in history. We do not yet know to what extent.
