It’s confirmed, these two characters from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be in season 2 of Andor

On one side, a super-villain (Ben Mendelsohn), and on the other a hero of the rebellion (Forest Whitaker), will soon make their return in a galaxy far, far away.

Held this weekend, D23 was an opportunity for Disney studios to stock up on exclusive announcements, particularly on the space side. After sharing a first trailer for the new series Skeleton Crew with Jude Law, and broadcast behind closed doors images from the film The Mandalorian and Grogu whose filming recently began, a guest of honor took to the stage to give news of season 2 ofAndor.

Following the adventures of the rebel Cassian Andor, played by Diego Lunafive years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Storywhere he first appeared in 2016, this series derived from the universe of Star Wars, arrived on our screens two years ago, was unanimously acclaimed by fans, who were nevertheless difficult to win over, and by critics. More adult, darker and more political, here it is back for a season 2 that promises to be even bigger, bringing back more than the characters from the first season.

Rumor heard across the galaxy, the return of Ben Mendelsohn in the role of Orson Krennic, officer of the Galactic Empire and engineer of the Death Star, is now confirmed by the images broadcast during D23 and introduced by the main actor himself.

But it is not the only element reported from Rogue One. To face him, Forest Whitaker becomes once again the rebel leader and emblematic member of the fight against the Galactic Empire that he was: Saw Gerrera. Like Cassian, he actively participated in the Battle of Yavin. During season 1 ofAndorhe briefly appeared during episodes 8 and 11. Also back, the security droid K2SO, previously only seen in the feature film.

This second season will pick up one year after the finale that led the main character to become leader of the rebellion. Unlike the first season which took place over a year, this one will cover the remaining four years before the events of Rogue One who brought to the destruction of the Death Star – before Cassian learns the fate of all the heroes. On stage, Diego Luna gave some details:

“In many ways, Rogue One changed my life. It’s awesome to be Cassian Andor. And as we come to the final piece of the puzzle, being able to complete the story that started in Season 1 and tie it into the events of Rogue One It’s an incredible, full circle for me (…) Every second traces Cassian’s evolution towards revolution, but in this season, the stakes are higher, the enemy is more organized, and the clock is ticking. As the Imperial threat grows and everything has become more dangerous, Cassian is driven by a noble purpose: to fight for freedom and a better future.”

To assist Cassian in his quest, we will find Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), senator leader of the Rebellion, and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard), spy who recruited Cassian for the rebel cause.

Composed of twelve episodes, season 2 ofAndor expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2025 after being delayed by the Hollywood writers’ strike.
