James Cameron explains why he has devoted his last 20 years to Avatar
The filmmaker wanted to “do good” and he confides his point of view on Pandora.

For what ? How to explain this obstinacy in spending the last decades of his great career on Pandora?
James Cameron recently entrusted his point of view in an interview with Rolling Stone. He explains that his main objective, by exploring the culture and the Lore of the NA’VI, is to help people reconnect as human beings and get closer to nature.
“I justified myself, to myself, to make Avatar films for 20 years, not according to the money we have earned, but by telling me that they could, in any case it is what I hope, do good, help us to connect, to find this part of ourselves which is linked to nature and that respects it”.
Despite this vision, the franchise has established itself as a real mastodon at the box office: the first two components have $ 5.24 billion in global revenue. The original film remains to this day the biggest success of all time, while its suite, Avatar: the waterwayoccupies third place.
Cameron specifies, however:
“Do I think the films are the solution to our human problems? No, I think it’s limited, because sometimes people just want entertainment and do not want to be challenged in this way. I see avatar as a Trojan horse strategy: you are attracted with entertainment, but it then acts a little on your brain and your heart.”
The filmmaker has also confirmed that he will supervise the already planned consequences beyond Avatar: Fire and Ash (which was released in December 2025).
Avatar 4 is expected on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 On December 19, 2031. In the meantime, the third part will be released on December 19, 2025. Trailer:
