Jude Law Binged Ripley on Netflix: “It Brought Back Memories”
The actor played Dickie in 1999's The Talented Mr. Ripley, opposite Matt Damon.
Series Ripley has been a sensation on Netflix for several weeks, even among Jude Law ! The English actor, who played Dickie in The Talented Mr. Ripley by Anthony Minghella (in 1999) explains to EW that he devoured the new adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel.
“I've binge-watched every episode. Like any adaptation from a brilliant source, it's really rewarding and interesting to watch something from a new point of view, from a new angle.”
He explains that “Steve Zaillian's vision, in many ways, is far removed from Anthony's (Minghella). It's very interesting to see which scenes and trends still come to the surface, even if they are very different in style and pace. I appreciate that. But at the same time, the book is so great. You're in good hands with great actors, and he's such an interesting character. Both versions reflect the director in many ways. One is visual, colorful and romantic. The other is more forensic and more sinister. In my opinion, the work often reflects the person at the controls of the camera...”
If Minghella's film is lush and romantic, Zaillian's series is more neo-noir, in black and white. In any case, this makes Jude Law quite nostalgic:
“I haven't seen The Talented Mr. Ripley in many years! So it was funny how many of the scenes were similar. It brought back so many memories, it brought up a lot of things. But I I suspected it! I remembered lots of things, even the name of Dickie's servant, Ermelinda. I kept saying: “Ermelinda, Ermelinda”. .”
Ripley can be seen on Netflix.
