Kathy Bates to retire… after this last role
The Misery actress has just turned 76. This fall, she will star in a new police series, Matlock, on American TV. Her “last hurrah,” she assures us.
She has found the last role of her great career. Kathy Bates is set to retire… but not just yet. At 76, the Oscar-winning star of Myserypassed by Titanic, The Office Or American Horror Story, accepted one last role. She will be Matlockthis fall, on American television (on CBS from September 22 and in France on Paramount +), a classic crime series which will be his last “track tour“.
This is what she confirmed in a recent interview with the New York Times. Kathy Bates says she recently experienced a film shoot that went badly. She doesn’t specify which one, but the clash was enough to make her want to hang up her act for good. Ready to stop acting, she put her retirement on hold after reading the script for Matlockabout a woman who feels that her age has made her invisible, even though she is still as brilliant and cunning as ever. A pitch that resonated with her own experience:
“Everything I’ve prayed for, worked for, fought for, I’m suddenly able to use it all in this role… And it’s exhausting.” she jokes, before confiding: “So this will be my last dance.”
