Les Roches rouge: the new Bruno Dumont is revealed before Cannes

After France and L’Empire, the director returns with a children’s film shot on the Côte d’Azur.

Absent from the first announcements of the Cannes Festival programming, Bruno Dumont was selected for the Filmmakers’ Fortnight, in a special screening, where he will present his new film, The Red Rocks. For the occasion, we discover its first image.

Announced in 2024, The Red Rocks contrasts with Dumont’s latest feature films, packed with stars like The Empirewho even saw the director of My lout try your hand at science fiction with Fabrice Luchini and Camille Cottin. Make way for an intimate story, set against the backdrop of vacations and first romantic emotions, echoing Romeo and Juliet.

Synopsis:

On the Côte d’Azur, two groups of children compete in their favorite game: jumping from the red rocks of the Mediterranean.

Géo, barely 5 years old, discovers over the course of a summer a world where friendship mixes with rivalry, and where the first impulses of the heart become a source of tension.


In the casting, we will find (very) young actors never seen in cinema: Kaylon Lancel (Géo), Kelsie Verdeilles (Eve), Louise Podolski (Manon), Mohamed Coly (Rouben), Alessandro Piquera (B), Meryl Pires (Do).

The film adopts a quasi-documentary approach, supported by an assertive use of the wide angle”, according to La Quinzaine, which specifies that the screening of Red Rocks will be followed by a masterclass from the filmmaker.

Les films du Losange, its distributor, has not yet announced its release date.
