Matthew Vaughn has a problem with the James Gunn and Peter Safran method for casting Supergirl
“I was asked to do The Flash, but I said I would only do it if I could do it again – I want my own superhero,” claimed the filmmaker.
Last December, James Gunn announced on X“a DC plan ready to get underway.” With Peter Safran, they are in fact taking the third step in their DCU renovation plan. A few days ago, the friends confirmed the identity of the future Supergirl For World of Tomorrow. It’s certain Threads that James Gunn revealed that Milly Alcockthe budding superstar, House of Dragons, will play the child of Krypton. She succeeds Helen Slater (in the 1984 film), Laura Vandervoort (In Smallville), Melissa Benoist (in the series Supergirl) and more recently Sasha Calle (who played the character in The Flash).
But who will realize Supergirl: World of Tomorrow ?
No confirmation has emerged, but the filmmakerArgyle, Matthew Vaughn must have ringing ears. The director describes himself as “crazy about Superman“, so nothing escapes him! This meticulousness could even more satisfy early fans, ready to cry foul when an inconsistency unfortunately arises.
Nevertheless, Matthew Vaughn seems to have reservations about his involvement. On the occasion of the BroBible podcast, Post Credit Podcastthe filmmaker spoke about the Kryptonian events:
“I’m a big fan of Milly Alcock, a big fan, Vaughn said. I met her for another project we were working on – she turned me down, which was sad. She’s a fabulous actress. Once again, I find it very strange that they don’t have a director. That surprised me, because it’s not the movie that should cast you — it’s the director who should cast the movie. I don’t understand who represents the film if there is no director.“
“I was asked to do The Flash, a long time ago, but I said I would only do it if I could do it again – if I made my own superhero movie, I want my own superhero. As for Milly Alcock, I probably would have cast her if I was directing her…so I didn’t think about it. Never say never. I’m a big fan of James Gunn and Peter Safran, so yes, I would consider it.” expressed Matthew Vaughn.
More generally, James Gunn And Peter Safran are responsible for creating a new DC universe which will cover films, series and video games. This responsibility leads the duo to manage the casting of actors and directors of the projects. Milly Alcock was selected by the tandem, which means that the future director chosen for his solo film will have to deal with this choice – among other decisions made by the talent hunters.
It is Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries) who is responsible for writing the screenplay for Supergirl: World of Tomorrow. Shortly after the announcement of the casting of Milly AlcockDC told Variety be looking for a director.
Supergirl: World of Tomorrow doesn’t have a release date yet, but Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025 (American date) at the cinema. It is also in this blockbuster, directed by James Gunn, that the superheroine should appear for the first time in this new incarnation…
