Michael Shannon is The Blasted President: trailer
A historical Netflix mini-series that promises to be electric.
This is perhaps one of the most exciting castings of this end of year: Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) steps into the shoes of President James Garfield, the famous American President assassinated at the end of the 19th century, only sixteen years after Abraham Lincoln. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) will play Charles Guiteau, his craziest admirer, the one who becomes his murderer. Nick Offerman (The Last of Us) will be his successor, Chester Arthur, Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale) will be James Blaine, and Betty Gilpin (GLOW) will play First Lady Crete Garfield.
Death by Lightning is a drama series “which brings to life the true, epic and imagination-defying story of James Garfield, 20th president – despite himself – of the United States, and his greatest admirer, Charles Guiteau, the man who was going to kill him” specifies the synopsis. The trailer promises an epic and political historical fresco, set in the turmoil of emerging America at the end of the 19th century. Watch below:
Shea Whigham, Alistair Petrie, Archie Fisher and Željko Ivanek complete the cast.
Note that David Benioff and DB Weiss, the creators of Game of Thrones, directed an episode.
Composed of 4 episodes, this historical mini-series The Blasted President will be released on November 6 on Netflix. The trailer in VOST below:
