One of Baywatch’s historic rescuers has died

Actor Michael Newman arrived in the first season. He died of Parkinson’s disease at the age of 68.

He wasn’t California’s best-known red swimsuit hero. And yet, Michael Newman is the most capable of lifeguardsBaywatchAfter David Hasselhoff. The American actor died this Sunday from heart complications. He was 68 years old and had suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 2006.

Newman starred in 150 episodes of Baywatchbetween 1989 and 2000, from the very first episode to the finale. That’s more than Pamela Anderson or David Charvet or Yasmine Bleeth.

His recurring character was named exactly like him, namely Mike Newman, nicknamed “Newmie”. Because Michael Newman had the distinction of being the only member of the cast ofBaywatch to have real experience as a beach lifeguard, working as a Los Angeles County lifeguard for more than 20 years before becoming an actor.

It was his friend, Matthew Felker, who recently directed the documentary series After Baywatch: Moment in the Sunwho announced his death to People magazine, specifying that Newman had died “surrounded by family and friends“.
