Hubert Charuel continues to explore peripheral France with his second feature film, presented in Cannes.
In 2017, Hubert Charuel caused a sensation with Small peasantthe story of a young dairy farmer (Swann Arlaud) whose world collapses when his cows are struck by a virus that threatens the future of his farm. A first try and a master stroke, with three César to the key: best first film, best actor and best actress in a supporting role (for Sara Giraudeau).
Eight years later, this son and grandson of farmers who passed through the FEMIS is finally back behind the camera, with his second feature film, Weatherselected at a certain look during the last Cannes Film Festival. Another story of a diagonal of the void (it was the title of his short study short film), but which this time takes place in an urban setting.
Hubert Charge gathered a beautiful skewer of actors to tell the trajectory of three friends who try to get out of it: Paul Kircher (The animal kingdom,, Their children after them) and Idir Azougli (Shéhérazade,, Raw diamond) play the two losers who must count on Salif Cissé (recently noticed in The answering machinewhere he imitated Denis Podalydès wonderfully to try to save their skin.
