Pedro Almodóvar wants to shoot a film in Paris with French actors
“There are some of your actors and actresses that I would put in front of my camera,” said the Spanish director in particular.
Pedro Almodovar is about to unveil the second short film of his career next Wednesday in theaters. The promotion of this western, Strange Way of Life, presented at Cannes last May, is therefore continuing in France. But in an interview with Sunday newspaperit is far from the Wild West that the director of Volover projected himself, claiming that he “would love to make a film in Paris, and in French”.
“I love your capital and with Rome, it is the city most visited by the cinema. There are some of your actors and actresses that I would put in front of my camera…”, he explained.
During the interview, the Spanish filmmaker notably mentions Woody Allen, who is preparing to unveil his next film in September, Stroke of luckfilmed in Paris with Lou de Laâge, Melvil Poupaud and Niels Schneider:
“I read an interview where he explains that not speaking your language was not a real problem for him… I understood the questions you asked me in French, I have some memories of my French lessons at school: all I have to do is practice”he continued.

For his part, it would not be the first time that Almodóvar would shoot a film in a foreign language. “I had already tried it for another short film, The Human Voicewith actress Tilda Swinton”, he recalls. A film about the fear of abandonment that he unveiled in 2020.
In 2023, “Strange Way of Life served as my second test of whether I was capable of directing a feature film in English”, he added. If he has already refused interesting projects before because of the language barrier, “today I feel ready”concluded the 73-year-old filmmaker.
