Rings of Power: season 3 should be released sooner than expected
The Lord of the Rings series is expected this year on Prime Video.
Good news for Tolkien fans?
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power series should return sooner than expected on Prime Video. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season 3 is now expected by the end of 2026, probably in the final weeks – while a release in 2027 was circulating until then. It should be noted that the film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be released in 2027 and we imagine that the two projects do not want to interfere with each other.
Incidentally, the synopsis announces a big jump in time: “Taking place several years after the events of season 2, this new season is set at the height of the war between the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to forge the One Ring which will give him the advantage to win the war and conquer all of Middle-earth.”
This war of the Elves takes place before the conflict seen in the prologue of the cinema trilogy of The Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson, known as the “War of the Last Alliance”.
We left Middle Earth imagined by JRR Tolkien in October 2024, when the finale of season 2 was broadcast. That’s another two years of waiting between two seasons.
The official renewal of the series was announced in February 2025, with filming launching shortly after at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom. It ended at the end of 2025.
On the casting side, several faces are returning: Charlie Vickers (Sauron), Morfydd Clark (Galadriel) and Robert Aramayo (Elrond). Recently announced newcomers include Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), as well as Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla and Adam Young, whose roles remain under wraps.
A real hit for the platform, with around 170 million spectators worldwide, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a major challenge for Prime Video.
