Silo: the end of season 2 explained

Silo: the end of season 2 explained

“We’re going to find out how it all started!” The showrunner deciphers the last episode and this final scene.

There are still a lot of answers missing. But we feel that Silo go straight there. The finale of season 2, online since Friday on Apple TV+ (and also Canal + in France), concludes in a very intense way the revolt of silo 18, Juliette’s. Spoiler alert!

While the rebels have managed to trap and overthrow Bernard, the furious crowd wants to get out, convinced that they have been lied to for decades. Luckily, Juliette returns in time to tell everyone to stay indoors because the air is really toxic! Above all, she reveals to Bernard that there is a way to prevent the “last resort”, a term used by the managers of the silos to poison all the inhabitants, in the case of a social collapse. But who manages these silos? For what ? Since when?

First element of response with the final scene which brings us brutally back to our real world. In Washington, a congressman has a drink with a Post journalist who questions him about the US response after a radioactive attack on American soil, obviously carried out by Iran. Are silos the answer to this attack?

“We thought long and hard about how to end season 2”explains the creator of the series Graham Yost in TVLine.

“We talked about ending in this airlock of the silo with the fire burning around Bernard and Juliette. Except that we’re not a suspense series. We don’t want to end up with a gun to the head. The end of Season 1 was like, “Damn, there’s more than just one silo actually! Where is Juliette going and what’s going to happen to her?” And Season 2 is like, “OK, I think we are?” let’s find out how it all started »

And Yost makes the comparison with Lost : “For those of us of this generation, the discovery of the trapdoor at the end of Season 1 of Lost is one of the greatest moments in television history. All of us authors are chasing the trap...”

The cliffhanger of season 2 also shows that Hélène (the journalist played by Jessica Henwick), which we will find in season 3, is the origin of the Pez dispenser in the shape of a duck’s head. “Yes, it’s that PEZ dispenser” che confirms, emphasizing that it is the same relic that George gave to Juliette in the romantic flashbacks of season 1. “You see this PEZ dispenser in this flashback to our time and it’s going to end up in a silo, 300 years in the future. How the hell did that happen?”

This will obviously be the goal of season 3, which will adapt the book Shiftvolume 2 of the trilogy of Hugh Howeywhich takes place in the past. We should therefore learn more about this story of an Iranian terrorist attack. What happened in New Orleans? What dirty bomb?

Silo 3 will explore the past. However, we will still return to the current silo. Juliette will always be there. She will certainly have survived the airlock fire. But Bernard? In an interview with The Wrap, Yost suggests he might just be there!

“I will say that in this final confrontation between Bernard and Juliette, every word is important. There are certain key words that you will see come back in force in season 3. I will also say to those who have read the books, that yes Bernard dies at the end of the book, he’s gone. That’s all I’ll say. No one is safe in this series, as we showed in season 1.”

Graham Yost also reveals to The Wrap that Judge Meadows resigned because she discovered that there was this tunnel with toxic gas that could be released into the silo, this safety measure that Solo’s parents tried to defuse in silo 17. “There are still a lot of mysteries around Silo 17. The main one being that all these people came out: what happened? They had an hour to get out. They didn’t all die in three minutes. What happened? Did he happen there? It will be part of season 3. You will have the answers to all that and then there are other things that you don’t find out until season 4. But yes, in the season. 3, Juliette will return with this crucial information : “They can kill us at any time.”
