After the surprise success of Under the Seinewhich has 102 million views on the clock (the 2nd biggest hit on the platform among its original foreign films), the sequel took a long time to come to fruition. But two years later, Alexandre Aja takes over.
According to The Hollywood Reporterthe French filmmaker specializing in horror films and who made a name for himself in Hollywood thanks to The Hill has eyeswill take charge Under the Seine 2. After his Piranha 3Dhe will therefore sign a shark film and succeed Xavier Gens, director of the first film and co-writer of the project, whose departure has not yet been explained.
Bérénice Béjo should return in the role of Sophia, a scientist confronted with sharks capable of surviving in the fresh waters of the Seine.
The sequel was officially ordered by Netflix in November 2024, and it was still in the writing phase in spring 2025. The Hollywood Reporter specifies that we do not know at this stage who is writing the script for this sequel – and whether Xavier Gens is still involved in it. Last year, hasa detour from a long interview granted to The TribuneBérénice Béjo said: “It won’t be a simple sequel. This is another film, very different… but still with a shark!”
