Squid Game: Does the end of the series announce a suite?
“I am not saying that I completely close the door to the consequences or the spin-offs …” warns the creator of the successful Korean series.
June 27, Hwang Dong-Hyukcreator, screenwriter and director of Squid gameofficially put an end to the series with season 3.
At least, apparently. Because if the story of Gi-hun is indeed over, the world of Squid gamehe could still extend.
“Season 3 is a real end, you feel it looking at it”, analysis Hwang in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “But I am not saying that I completely close the door to the consequences or spin-offs. As they say: ‘you should never say’.”
The South Korean director already already has an idea. He has already thought about how to maintain his bloody saga alive:
“I have this vague idea of a project that would not be a direct sequel, but a spin-off taking place in the three-year ellipse between season 1 and season 2, when Gi-Hun is looking for recruiters”.
A means, according to him, to explore what is happening behind the scenes:
“We could follow the recruiters, Captain Park, masked men … not in the arena, but in their lives outside the game.”
In other words a Squid game Without a player and without games.
To return to the arena, you may have to spin on the other side of the Atlantic.
Attention spoilers!
In the final of season 3, the surprise appearance of Cate Blanchett could well be the long-awaited American spin-off stone. The Oscar -winning actress embodies a recruiter tracing new participants in the streets of Los Angeles. A scene that seems to open the way to this famous American version of Squid game a long time mentioned, a project led by David Fincher (with whom Blanchett has already worked on The strange story of Benjamin Button) and which we imagine will eventually be done. Hwang does not confirm anything, but lets doubt doubt:
“I suppose that we can see it like that, like the opening towards a spin-off … The end brings a real conclusion, but there is also this feeling of lack, something that persists. So maybe one day, if the occasion arises and that the moment is well chosen, there will be room for other stories.”
In costume, playing the game of djaiki with a homeless, Cate Blanchett Look for the front man who goes by car. The two recognize themselves silently. And he leaves leaving the recruiter doing her job. And this is how the series ends: by suggesting that, even if the Squid game In South Korea is over (the island has exploded), the game has already spread / also exists in other countries and especially in the United States … where VIPs of season 3 came from.
A way for Netflix to leave the door open to new stories in this universe. Even if nothing has yet been confirmed by the platform. According to VarietyNetflix does not plan to officially announce spin-off at the moment. But there is little doubt that the streaming giant is already seriously reflecting on the continuation of its most striking license.
