TF1 revisits The Mystery of the Yellow Room in a mini-series

Claire Romain will lead the investigation in a new female version of Rouletabille.

While TF1 is preparing a female version of The Count of Monte Cristo with Audrey Fleurot as the vengeful heroine, the channel continues to explore French literary heritage by adapting it to current tastes. Next step: The Mystery of the Yellow Room, the cult novel by Gaston Leroux, revisited in a contemporary mini-series by director François Velle.

A daring bet, more than twenty years after the film by Bruno Podalydès (2003) which already offered a stylized and mischievous reading of the Rouletabille investigation, with Denis Podalydès and Sabine Azéma. TF1 delivers here a modernized female version, transposed to the Gorges du Verdon and anchored in the codes of the current thriller.

Filming in the Gorges du Verdon and the PACA region begins today.

This free adaptation is a creation by Sophie Dab, Audrey Gagneux and Sarah Farkas.

Claire Romain (currently in Montmartre) will lead the investigation. Pierre-Yves Bon, Benjamin Baroche, Barbara Schulz, Patrick Descamps, Sophie Duez, Terence Telle, David Baiot and Chine Thybaud will complete the cast, with also the participation of Medi Sadoun and Michèle Bernier.

Official synopsis:

“Jo, a young journalist, learns with amazement that an attempted murder has taken place in her native village, L’Artuby, nestled in the Gorges du Verdon. She is devastated to learn that the victim is none other than Mathilde, a close childhood friend, who has been in a coma since the attack. The circumstances of the tragedy particularly intrigue her: when alerted by the cries, certain villagers managed to enter the victim’s room, she was there alone. However, the armored door was closed and there was no other way out… But where could the attacker have gone? The crime scene is as spectacular as it is mysterious. Accompanied by Sainclair, a successful podcaster who sees this as his next scoop, Jo returns to the village of her childhood to try to understand what happened to Mathilde. But when Marseille’s greatest policeman, Larsan, is dispatched to the investigation to put an end to the media commotion, he will not look favorably on the parallel investigation of two nosy journalists. Will they manage to solve The Mystery of the Yellow Room?”

By mixing classic thriller and contemporary tension, TF1 intends to dust off the myth of Rouletabille, in a feminine and nervous version.
