Apple's new historical series will immerse us in America at the end of the 60's.

A fake film production to escape the authorities… No, we are not in Iran and in Argo, but in the United States. In the early 1970s, Huey P. Newton, founder of the Black Panthers, is hunted by Uncle Sam and wants to take refuge in Cuba, with the help of a few friends from Hollywood. This is what will be said The Big Cigarthe new historic series from Apple TV+, the trailer for which has just been released (below).

Adapted from an article by Joshuah Bearman (who previously wrote the of Argo), The Big Cigar East “the true story of the meeting between the Hollywood revolution and the social revolution: the crazy adventure of Huey P. Newton, founder of the Black Panthers, who, to escape the FBI, fled to Cuba with the help of the famous producer Bert Schneider, by developing an incredible plan involving a fake film production” teases the official synopsis.

The first two episodes are directed and produced by Don Cheadle. Andre Holland (Moonlight) puts himself in the shoes of Huey P. Newton. Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, PJ Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie and Glynn Turman complete the cast.

The first two episodes of The Big Cigar will be available on Friday, May 17, followed by an episode every Friday until June 14. The series will also be seen in France on Canal +.
