Questioned by the Hollywood Reporter, the director of Diet bluntly explains that the aim of satire is to show the dangers of these self-proclaimed saviors of the nation, who in fact only want to confiscate power. He thus underlines the striking parallels between the narcissistic and grandiose chancellor played by Kate Winslet, and the current Republican favorite in the polls. He notes in passing that “the reality of Trump's return is increasingly strong. She has seriously grown since we filmed the series…”
Jessica Hobbswho directed three more episodes, agrees that The system of government aims to make viewers ask questions. If she doesn't quote directly Donald Trumpshe stresses that the scandalous antics of her Chancellor must wake people up:
“If you can make something dangerously funny, a show that makes people uncomfortable, that makes people laugh out of embarrassment, then maybe they'll think about how ridiculous some situations in the real world are. And maybe… Maybe it will make them think a little about what they could do to prevent it…”
