This is what the abandoned Star Wars from the creators of Game of Thrones would have been about
David Benioff and Dan Weiss pitch the plot of what should have been The First Jedi.
The duo of showrunners who brought the legendary work of George RR Martin spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about their new sci-fi series The Three-Body Problem. David Benioff And Dan Weiss recovered from the adventure Game Of Thrones, of the ups and downs that this cult series made them experience and open up about the different projects on which they then worked. Including the one, ultimately aborted, which was attached to the franchise Star Wars.
While a new long on The Mandalorian and Grogu has been confirmed, as well as a blockbuster centered around Rey’s return (Daisy Ridley), the two screenwriters explain that their film was to be titled The First Jedi : “We wanted to do The First Jedi (…) it told the story of the creation of the Jedi Order, its objective, the first lightsaber…“, begin David Benioff. “We were very annoyed when (Ryan Johnsonalso producer of Three-body problem) decided to call his film The Last Jedi (…) he completely destroyed the obvious title of our work”, finishes his sidekick Dan Weiss.
“This is not at all what I expected!” Daisy Ridley is surprised by Star Wars
Note that this pitch – recounting the origins of the Jedi Order – resembles the promise ofEpisode X, since it will follow Rey’s quest to form a new Order. Above all, this concept recalls another film project supervised by James Mangold : the director of Logan was entrusted with a film Star Wars titled Dawn of the Jedi which will tell exactly the idea of Benioff And Weissnamely the advent of the very first users of the Force, 25,000 years before the events of the first two trilogies.
No information indicates that Benioff And Weiss are associated with the film Mangold but on paper nothing would prevent a future collaboration between the screenwriters and the director…
While waiting to learn more about this mysterious film, The Three-Body Problem is a series adapted from the eponymous novel by Liu Cixin and recounts over a very long period, the preparation of Humanity for an encounter with an extraterrestrial civilization. The series will be available on Netflix from March 21.
