Toy Story 6 in sight: the director is already imagining the continuation of the saga

With a record start and the biggest launch in the history of the franchise, a new sequel seems almost inevitable. And Andrew Stanton is already starting to talk about it…

While Toy Story 5 a hit at the box office, the question of a sixth film is already being raised. And even if Disney and Pixar have not yet made anything official, Andrew Stanton clearly opens the door to a new adventure.

Asked by Screen Time about the future of the saga over the next thirty years, the director initially remained evasive: “I can’t tell you.”

But then he gave a hint about the direction he’d like to see the franchise take:

I would like it to remain as honest as it has always been and that we continue to follow the lives of the children. This is what allowed the original trilogy around Andy to conclude in a perfect way. And I hope we can do the same thing, if the series continues, a trilogy with Bonnie and everyone who comes into their lives.

In other words, the future of Toy Story would not necessarily go through new toys or new spectacular adventures, but through the natural evolution of the children around them, as the saga has always done since 1995.

Producer Lindsey Collins also shares this vision:

What has always made this franchise work is that it has remained honest with what is happening in the world, in children’s lives, and in every era we live through. That’s what’s been fun to follow all these years.”

Between the lines, we understand that the Bonnie trilogy would end in the medium term with a Toy Story 6before opening a new era in the Pixar toy saga, letting a few years pass…

It must be said that the revenues generated by Woody & Cie are so enormous that it seems unthinkable to say goodbye to the brand. Produced for approximately $250 million, Toy Story 5 posted the biggest start of the entire franchise with $160 million in North America and $312 million worldwide in its first weekend. Alone Vice-Versa 2 has done better in Pixar history. In these conditions, it is difficult to imagine Disney not quickly giving the green light to Toy Story 6.
