Stranger Things: the answers to the questions you ask yourself after the finale

What happens to Eleven at the end of Stranger Things? Millie Bobby Brown gives her opinion

“I think it’s incredibly important that…” The actress recalls the famous final scene of Eleven, in the last episode of the Netflix series.

Millie Bobby Brown weighs in on Eleven’s fate!

The question has haunted fans since the finale of Stranger Things aired: what really happens to Eleven?

Faced with all the speculation, Millie Bobby Brown finally spoke about the fate reserved for her character in the last minutes of the Netflix series. In an interview with Tudum, the actress confirms what many feared…

Spoiler alert!

For her, Eleven’s arc ends with a sacrifice! A radical decision, carefully considered, as much by the creators as by the performer herself.

“I think it’s incredibly important that everything stops for her, that the suffering and pain ends,” says Millie Bobby Brown. In the finale, Eleven chooses to disappear with the Upside Down in order to prevent military scientists from exploiting her blood. She definitely breaks the cycle of manipulation and supernatural experimentation.

A choice that the actress describes as “beautiful and cathartic”, and which she had hoped for for a long time.

“When I was younger, I couldn’t find my inner voice, and I recognized a lot of myself in Eleven. This season, she finally finds her voice and makes a decision bigger than any she’s made before.”

Before disappearing, Eleven plays a key role in Vecna’s defeat, mobilizing a level of power she has never before achieved.

“It’s very new to me, because I know there’s some sort of finality,” says Millie Bobby Brown of her character’s ultimate sacrifice. Eleven passes out after a final goodbye to Mike. But Stranger Things never fully closes the door. The finale leaves a doubt: Mike imagines that Kali could have used an illusion to protect Eleven, and that she might still be alive, hidden in a distant village. An ambiguity that Millie Bobby Brown fully claims:

“I love this ending. There’s a bigger meaning to Kali’s powers. Everything has a purpose, everything is there for a reason.”

Anyway, the Duffers go further: if Eleven is still alive, she will never tell Mike and the others. “Any contact would risk putting her back in danger and starting the cycle again. So, in Mike’s story, I don’t think he’s considering a reunion one day…”
