What Men Think: A Romantic Comedy Remake

A little less than 20 years ago, the stories of Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Connelly crossed paths.

It’s a vestige of the time when Hollywood had fun making ensemble romantic comedies with XXL casts.

We were entitled to Valentine’s Day Or Happy New Year. And also to What men thinkadaptation of the book He’s Just Not That Into Youbook by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, published in 2004. A huge rom’com’ carried by Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston, also with Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Connelly and Justin Long. Despite painful reviews, the film released in 2009 grossed more than $178 million worldwide (for a budget of barely $40 million).

New Line Cinema is therefore trying to reproduce the blow by preparing a remake.

According to The InSneiderthe studio is currently looking for a new screenwriter to revisit the concept in the modern era. The project could even adopt a new title, in order to better reflect its time and contemporary themes.

If the casting will be entirely renewed, Drew Barrymore could give a nod to the original film: the actress will in fact produce the remake via her company Flower Films, alongside Nancy Juvonen, and does not rule out a small cameo.

Directed at the time by Ken Kwapis (4 girls and jeans), What men think dissected romantic misunderstandings through several intertwined stories.

It remains to be seen which XXL cast of the 2020s such a rom’com would be able to bring together…
