Why does Superman do not appear (yet) in season 2 of Peacemaker

“We can’t always afford to pay cameos, that’s how it is.”

Season 2 of Peacemaker has officially started, and a question is already tapping fans: but where is Superman? Why doesn’t he come to rescue when a drama threatens?

Now that we know that the character of David Corenswet indeed coexists in the same universe, his absence in the series of James Gunn seems sometimes inconsistent. Two actors from the show, Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) and Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), brought some explanations … while leaving doubt about possible cameos to come.

In an interview with Fortress of Solitude, Jennifer Holland recalled that each hero has her own business to manage, hence the absence of the steel man in Peacemaker:

“The first thing you have to accept when you watch films or series of connected superheroes is: why they have not just called this or that person? It must be admitted that everyone is busy for their part, that each group or faction-like Argus-has their own missions to accomplish.”

The actress even gave a very real comparison: “It’s a bit like the CIA which does not always use the FBI. Everyone has their divisions, their tasks. And then, to be honest … You can’t always afford to pay the cameos, that’s how it is.”

For his part, Frank Grillo was more mysterious. Because he was present in Superman. Recognizing the conflict between Kal-el to his character in the film, he slips:

“I think there is clearly resentment between Rick Flag and Superman. But it’s true that they cannot always land when you need them. That said … You only saw 5 episodes? So we can really say nothing.”

After the cameos of Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) already seen in this season 2, remains to be seen if other figures of the new superman film will point the tip of their cape in the rest of season 2 of Peacemaker.
