Steven Knight announces a big budget for the Peaky Blinders film: “We're going to take it up a notch”

“This film will be made. We will be ready for September (…) And Cillian is all in!”, assures the creator of the show.

Steven Knight is in the middle of promoting a new BBC series, This Townand he logically does not escape questions about the end of Peaky Blinders. After six successful seasons, broadcast between 2013 and 2022, the creator announced that he wanted to conclude his story with a movie. If fans could have feared that the success ofOppenheimer could prevent its main actor, Cillian Murphyto get back into Tommy Shelby's costume, it won't happen, he assures NME. On the contrary, the actor remains enormously attached to this show, and he has continued to express his desire to film quickly Peaky Blinders – the movie throughout Oscar season.

“This film is going to be made, assures Steven Knight. We will be ready for September. There, I only have details to refine, and that's what I'm going to do over the next few months, until the day before the shoot. But here we are. We managed to plan everything, we had all the commitments we needed, we are ready to get started.”

“I think we're going to take it up a notch with this film, he adds. It will be great to see the fans of Peaky get together in the same room to see it together. The budget will be bigger than for the series, and this is mainly due to the fact that we know exactly how we want to end this chapter. We're going to do our best.”

Regarding the participation of the star of the show, Steven Kinght has no fear:

“Cillian is into it. I can't wait for us to start filming. Isn't all the success he's had these days incredible? I'm incredibly happy for him, because he deserves it. You know that after each award he won, he sent me a text to reassure me: He said: 'I can't wait to get back to working on Peaky.' It was his way of confirming to me that despite everything he was going through, it wouldn't change anything we had planned.”

“I know exactly what the film will be about, finally explained Steven Knight, but to another media, Esquire. I know exactly which two stories we want to tell. How the plot could give rise to new stories, I don't know. What could happen after this? I want the answer to depend on the film. What is certain is that someone important is coming – and I think I know who it will be. With the sixth season, we introduced a new generation, and all these young people are going to be part of what happens in the film. The challenge was to find actors that we could observe and say to ourselves: 'This is the future.'

Peaky Blinders, 10 years already!
