The star advised him to follow up with a very different project: the Apple TV+ miniseries Masters of the Air, which he co-produced with Steven Spielberg.
Austin Butler its so immersed in the role of Elvis Presley for Baz Luhrmann’s film as his acting partner Tom Hanks, who played Colonel Parker alongside him, feared for his sanity. He then advised him to quickly shoot another project, which would have nothing to do with the biopic of the singer, and this is what the 31-year-old actor did, who continued with the role of one villains of Dune – Part 2and who also signed for the mini-series Masters of the Air for Apple TV+. A project co-produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks himself, which follows Band of Brothers And The Pacifictwo acclaimed World War II series.
“He told me : “You have immersed yourself so much in the skin of Elvis that to protect yourself, for your mental health, you would be wise to quickly shoot something else, tells the comedian to the British Times. If you jump off the train, you could suffer a big emotional breakdown. You know I’m producing this other project?’“
Baz Luhrmann’s musical film effectively exhausted the young Australian actor, who found his first major role here after a few notable appearances (notably in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, by Quentin Tarantino). Practicing to sing like his role model, he has so much imitated his voice that he then had trouble getting rid of his accent and was afraid of having damaged his vocal cords. But all his hard work paid off, as he won acclaim for his performance, received a Golden Globe for Best Actor and was nominated for an Oscar in the process.
It is therefore thanks to his playing partner in Elvis that Austin Butler was able to follow up with Masters of the Aira mini-series in ten episodes which will also be worn by Cullum Turner (Fantastic Beasts) and Anthony Boyle (Tetris). It doesn’t have a release date yet, but is part of of the platform’s most ambitious projects.
