Will 10,000 Ships finally be the future Game of Thrones spin-off?
According to George RR Martin, this three-year-old project is not underwater.
While season 2 of House of the Dragon will begin and the other spin-off of Game Of Thronesdedicated to Dunk & Egg is about to start filming, George RR Martin announces that another spinoff series is in development in Westeros.
Ten Thousand Shipsa project that we thought had sunk to the bottom of the Sea of Dorne for years, has obviously been saved from the waters, unlike the series on Jon Snow, which was well and truly canceled.
In a recent blog post, Martin praised the writer Eboni Booth for winning the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in the “Letters and Drama” category, for his play Primary Trust. Martin also revealed that he was working with Booth on a new pilot for Ten Thousand Shipsa series that will follow the warrior queen of Dorne, Nymeria, facing the Rhoynar people of Essos…
“We're all very excited about this project…even though we're still trying to figure out how we're going to pay for ten thousand ships, three hundred dragons, and these giant turtles.”
We understand from the message that the project initiated in 2021 has been put on hold. Amanda Segel (Person of Interest) had been named as showrunner, but everything now seems to be in the trash. It would therefore have since been replaced by Eboni Boothto oversee the project.
George RR Martin nevertheless suggests that Ten Thousand Ships faces major production and cost challenges, which could prevent the series from ultimately coming to fruition.
At the moment, not much is known about the story.
