Zendaya opens up about her love story with Tom Holland: “I feel at peace with him”

They are one of the most scrutinized couples in Hollywood. But behind the rumors and fantasies, Zendaya reveals her truth about her relationship with Tom Holland, which began during a simple audition…

Podcast guest Modern Love of the New York Times, alongside Robert Pattinson – for the promotion of The Drama – Zendaya opened up about what makes her relationship with Tom Holland so special:

“I knew right away that he was my ‘person’ because I don’t feel nervous around him, I I feel at peace, really calm… In fact, I’m more nervous when I’m away from him than when I’m with him.”

A feeling born from their first real meeting, during an audition for Spider-Man: Homecomingin 2016. An inevitably stressful moment for the young actress who is not yet a superstar:

“I was already quite nervous… but he calmed me down. Just by being a nice person, making me feel comfortable. It’s that kind of audition where you really want the part… and he was really lovely.”

We know the rest: Tom Holland becomes Peter Parker, Zendaya plays MJ, and their chemistry spans three films while waiting for the fourth, Brand New Daywhich will be released in theaters this summer. Then they will share the poster again in The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan.

Almost ten years have passed since their debut. An eternity in Hollywood, as their romance was built before the eyes of the public:

“I feel like I’m not very objective, because I had the chance to grow up with the person I love, to know him literally from adolescence until now. Obviously, we change, we evolve, life happens… but I always feel this bond, this connection that makes you feel like you really know someone, at least enough to feel safe with them.”

So are Tom Holland and Zendaya married today as stylist Law Roach suggested last March, triggering a little madness on the networks? Zendaya says nothing but explains that she wants to keep a cool head in the face of this kind of attention:

“I understand that there’s an almost parasocial attachment to our relationship. People feel like they know us. I’m aware of being a public person, as is Tom, and I know that we grew up in front of people’s eyes. Plus, we’ve made films where we fall in love… so yes, I understand that attachment. And I don’t want to brush it off as, ‘Mind your own business!’ But at the same time, I’m a very private person, and I try to keep certain things to myself and to him.“

Maintaining a degree of intimacy is the key to making such a star relationship work over time. Zendaya assures him:

“We are not trying to hide from the world, but rather to preserve certain things for ourselves, to keep this joy between us, with our loved ones and our family. It’s my way of saying that I hear all that, but that I also have my limits on what I want to share… and what I prefer to keep to myself.”
