Harry Potter: Ralph Fiennes has a “brilliant” idea for Voldemort

The actor offers a “gender swap”, that is to say a female reinterpretation of the famous villain imagined by JK Rowling.

What if HBO dared to cast against the odds for Voldemort?

Ralph Fiennes will not reprise his role as Voldemort in the upcoming HBO series Harry Potter. He was the face of absolute Evil in the film saga, but for him, the story is over. Guest on Claudia Winkleman’s show, the star of Conclave returned to this possibility which has agitated fans for months and he confides bluntly:

“I was asked the question at the end of the films: would I be up for coming back? And I answered yes, with pleasure.” A desire that remained a dead letter.

“But nothing happened. They didn’t call me. I think this train passed…”

No return therefore for the one who embodied He-Whose-Must-Not-Pronounce-The-Name. So who will replace him? Who will play Voldemort in the series? Harry Potter from HBO?

Ralph Fiennes has a suggestion that might make fans shiver: Tilda Swinton.

“But I tell you, Tilda Swinton has been mentioned somewhere as a potential candidate, and I’m all for it! I think it would be great, she would be great!”

A choice far from trivial, since it would change the gender of the character, of the villain and therefore also of Tom Riddle… Not sure that the fans are ready to accept it.

But Tilda Swinton has a crazy charisma, a unique face and she knows the mystical universes perfectly, she who was the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia and the Elder in Doctor Strange. Note that she also crossed paths with Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel And Hail, Caesar!.

For the moment, HBO has still not revealed who will play Voldemort in its new adaptation. And you may have to wait: the character only really appears from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fireafter furtive appearances in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone And Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secretswhere he is not yet completely reincarnated.

So who? Cillian Murphy, often cited by fans, will not be there. The actor ofOppenheimer put an end to the rumors: “It’s an emphatic no. Make it your title” he said recently. He-Whose-Name-Must-Not-Pronounce has no name for the moment…

The series Harry Potter will be launched at Christmas on HBO Max in France.
