The Spanish director is in competition for the first time at Cannes with this feature film which also stars Vicky Luengo.

After the success of his series New YearsRodrigo Sorogoyen returns to cinema four years after his previous feature film, As Bestasnoticed at Cannes Première. With The loved one (The querido in original version), the Spanish filmmaker is this time in the competition for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Javier Bardem plays a renowned director who made a career in the United States and returns to Spain to shoot his new film and reconnect with his daughter, a second-rate actress, whom he has not seen for 13 years. He offers her the leading female role. A shoot which will also reopen the wounds of the past. Not to mention the volcanic behavior of this old-fashioned director.

For the role of the girl, Rodrigo Sorogoyen reunites with Vicky Luengo, whom he revealed in his series Antidisturbios. She is also in another film in competition at Cannes 2026, Autofiction by Pedro Almodóvar. Raul Arévalo (The minimum island) and Marina Foïs (who was already the poster ofAs Bestas) complete the cast.
