What are the early reviews saying about Spielberg’s Disclosure Day?

While a final trailer has just been posted online, the first reviews have been posted on the networks and they are very enthusiastic, even talking about “the best Spielberg in a long time”.

This is all true“, announces Steven Spielberg himself in the new trailer for Disclosure Dayreleased online today by Universal (see below).

A long video that says a lot about the revelation of the extraterrestrial presence on Earth for ages: “We’ll have to accept that we were never alone” insists the filmmaker to support his new great science fiction story, which will be released on June 10 in France in cinemas. A story to sleep on your feet?

Not at all for the American press, who were able to see the film in recent days. The first opinions posted on the networks are enthusiastic, some critics going so far as to call it the best Spielberg in twenty years, with a unanimous special mention for Emily Blunt’s performance.

Gizmodo journalist Germain Lussier writes: “I loved Disclosure Day. A dense roller coaster mixing chase film, love story and mystery, all wrapped in immense sci-fi fascination. It’s Spielberg’s best film in twenty years, filled with all the magic that makes his films so special, plus a monumental performance from Emily Blunt.”

Same pleasure from Steven Weintraub, editor-in-chief of Collider: “Unsurprisingly, Steven Spielberg signs yet another immense masterstroke with Disclosure Day. I was lucky enough to discover the film knowing almost nothing and I highly recommend doing the same. Stop watching trailers. The only thing I will say: Emily Blunt is amazing. Summer blockbusters rarely get awards attention for their acting performances, but when people see what she’s doing here….”

Journalist Bill Bria also salutes “breathtaking visual compositions“, a screenplay by David Koepp which he describes as “X-Files meets the Bible“, as well as “the best John Williams music in years.

For IndieWire, Jim Hemphill talks about a Spielberg “at the top of his art“, and a film”as exhilarating as Raiders of the Lost Ark but with the emotional texture and ambition of his post-9/11 films.

Finally, Drew Taylor for TheWrap perhaps sums up the general feeling around the film: “I can’t remember the last time I loved a Spielberg film so much. It’s thrilling, funny, deeply moving and impeccably performed. Emily Blunt is stunning. The film overflows with mystery and wonder. Nobody does it like Spielberg.”
