A character of White Lotus cut because of Donald Trump
A scene from Carrie Coon was cut off. She revealed to have a non-binary girl there.
This year, The White Lotus Do not hesitate to touch the real policy. Especially around the three Kate friends (Leslie Bibb), Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) and Laurie (Carrie Coon), while the first, very integrated into her community in Texas, refuses to reveal if she voted for Donald Trumpcausing the stupor of his friends … Trump invites himself to the White Lotus and that has consequences.
Carrie Coon reveals that this sequence initially had an even more marked political context. In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress says that a detail concerning the personal life of her character was deleted after the American presidential election of 2024:
“Originally, we learned that Laurie’s daughter was non-binary, perhaps trans, and used pronouns They/them. We saw Laurie in difficulty to explain it to her friends, struggling to use the right pronouns and to master adequate language, which was very interesting.”
But the season had been written and shot before the re -election of Trump and the little scene was cut off in the edge of the return of the republican to the White House. CONTLIBLE:
“The season was written before the election. And given the way in which the Trump administration has further instrumentalized the cultural war against transgender people, Mike estimated that the scene was too brief to approach such a large subject in an appropriate manner.”
The actress also recalls that the director’s father, Mike Whitewrote an influential book on his own coming-out as a gay man in an evangelical church. “”Many young men have read it and found a significant text there for their own journey. Mike does not hesitate to approach complex cultural conversations, and I really appreciate it in his work.“”
