All the essential explanations after the finale of Agatha All Along
The Marvel series ended leaving several doors open. What should we understand? And where are Billy and Agatha going? The designer responds.
This is a Marvel series that should not have a big impact on the MCU in the short term. Waiting to see if Wiccan and Speed (aka Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Wanda’s children) will one day be in The Avengers: Magical Adventure Agatha All Along ended with a double episode full of revelations and questions. Spoiler alert!
First, it was discovered that the Witches’ Trail never existed. It was Billy who completely created it, and the trials that go with it. The song “Down the Witches Road” was never an incantation. Just a trap used by Agatha to lure other witches and kill them by tapping their power, after her son, Nicholas, was taken away by Death.
Agatha All Along in fashion Usual Suspects ?
“Billy made the road from scratch“, confirms the designer Jac Schaeffer in Variety. “Agatha did indeed travel a road, but it was a real road in nature with her son, and it was he who invented the “Ballad”. She took this ‘Ballad’ and turned it into a scam.” The screenwriter then confides to be “obsessed with Usual Suspects and felt like Agatha was Keyser Söze, with Billy having the Kobayashi moment where all the pieces came together. I was a little afraid that it would duplicate the reveal of WandaVision. But I couldn’t resist the truth that Nicholas invented the “Ballad” and is the heart of it all. It was simply irresistible.”
Who is Nicholas’ father in Agatha All Along ?
The series ends leaving big gray areas around Agatha Harkness’s son. Who is he really? Why did Death take him away? And so who is his father? “That’s a story for another day, but ultimately it wasn’t crucial to this story.” assures the designer, who refuses to say if she knows the answer to this question. Nicholas’ fatheris another MCU story, over which I may have no control…”
Why is Agatha a ghost at the end of the series?
Jac Schaeffer assures in Variety that this was the plan from the start: “We always thought she would end up as a ghost, because that’s how we often see her in the comics. So that was the goal. And anyway, I think she’s at her best when she’s a mentor. That’s what it’s supposed to be. So we had this idea of making her Billy’s spiritual guide. It’s a nice conclusion to this chapter of his life“.
Why don’t we see Tommy in the series?
From the moment the teenager reveals himself to be Billy Maximoff, we expect Agatha All Along ends with the twins reunited. But that never happens. “We talked about it“, admits the designer, who confesses that it was impossible for them to go to the end: “It’s complicated because you have to take other things into consideration with Marvel series endings. What happens after that? After we showed that? Is there a plan? A long-term casting? It gets tricky and we couldn’t do Tommy in our series.“Despite everything, Jac Schaeffer confesses that at the end of her series, Agatha guides Billy to the body that Tommy will inhabit at that time. We got a glimpse of Tommy in a drowning body. But no more. “We went to the economy, but simply because we hope to see Tommy again later in the MCU“.
For what Agatha All Along doesn’t have a post-credits scene?
“This is a Marvel decision. I don’t know anything more” replies the creator, who admits to having written several possible sequences. “I love writing this. I think some of my best writing is in those wink sequences that were never done. You write the promise without having to keep anything. It’s great! But there are so many factors that come into play and I was told upon arrival that we weren’t going to do a post-credits scene in this series.” Which suggests that Marvel may not have any plans to make a season 2 ofAgatha All Along.
