Box office: a successful first day for Supergirl in France

The French comedy License to Destruct also got off to a nice start, thanks to the Fête du cinéma.

After a slow takeoff in the United States, Supergirl made a good debut in French cinemas.

Craig Gillespie’s film crossed the threshold of 100,000 cumulative admissions on its first day of release, thanks in particular to the 33,000 tickets sold during previews. Distributed in 573 theaters, the new DC Universe opus has a solid average of 117 spectators per print.

A good score, largely boosted by the last days of the Fête du Cinéma, which ended yesterday, and ultimately not so far from the start of Superman last year. James Gunn’s film attracted 133,384 spectators in 659 cinemas, an average of 202 admissions per print, before ending its career with more than 1.6 million admissions in France. A goal which, however, promises to be more difficult to achieve for her cousin Kara.

Waiting for, Supergirl largely dominates the new releases of the week.

Behind, French comedy License to destroy marks an encouraging start. Carried by Kad Merad and Patrick Timsit, the film by Éric Fraticelli, who directed it and also plays one of the main roles, has already attracted more than 60,000 admissions in 295 theaters, again thanks to a major preview system.

For comparison, Building permitreleased in March 2022, had accumulated 26,155 entries at the end of its first day.

Finally, the other big release of the week is struggling to find its audience. Hugh Jackman, in the role of the famous Sherwood outlaw, attracted just over 14,000 spectators in 244 theaters, an average of 57 admissions per print. They called him Robin Hood thus advances In Waves by Phuong Mai Nguyen, opening film of Critics’ Week, which reached 10,000 admissions after its first day.
