Chris Hemsworth would have liked to star in a Kevin Costner film…

…but the role was already reserved for the director himself! The actor remembers this misunderstanding without bitterness.

Present at CinemaCon to present Transformers One scheduled for September 2024, and in which he lends his voice to Optimus Prime, Chris Hemsworth briefly looked back on his career, and more particularly on the hopes he had placed in a role which ended up passing under his nose. A role, which was in fact reserved for someone else:

“There was a film, a script that I had read and loved and I said to myself: 'I want to do it'. And then someone said:: 'Kevin Costner has this role', confides Chris Hemsworth to Entertainment Tonight. I would love to have him as a director. I said to myself : 'Damn it !'. The other day I spent an hour trying to convince him, and he said to me: 'I do, little one'. It did not work. I didn’t get the part.”

Chris Hemsworth talks about his 'pretty awful' character in Furiosa

When the journalist tries to find out more about the film, the interpreter of Thor simply blurts out that this film is “abstract and interesting”, “a short story about a man and a woman”. Could it be the much awaited Horizon, a four-part fresco, the first two of which will be presented in Cannes, or another project still in production? Not a clue filters through. On the role, Chris Hemsworth had this to say:

“It's certain that when it comes to the atmosphere of the western, it's better that he's the one holding the helm. There are horses involved, he's a master driver, and my wife is the read and loves horses We have ten or eleven horses at home and she told me: 'You have to do this'.”

A missed opportunity for the Australian actor, who, according to Kevin Costner himself, has continued to dazzle. Asked by AND following Chris Hemsworth's statements, the sixty-nine-year-old actor and director commented on his younger brother's statements:

“It's a love storyhe says of the film, but as long as I'm young enough to play it, I'll play it. Chris will have to wait his turn. Hemsworth is so handsome and so talented. He will have to find his own love story. But I'm glad he likes this one. If I get to a point where I don't think I can do it, I'll reach out to him. He’s definitely one of our biggest players right now.”

George Miller is “delighted” to return to Cannes to present Furiosa “with Anya, Chris and Tom”

This decision is not surprising: Kevin Costner has always played the main roles in the films he has directed, whether in Dancing with the wolves, PostmanOr Open Range.

Chris Hemsworth and Kevin Costner will perhaps have the opportunity to discuss this failed act on the Croisette. Next May, they are both expected in Cannes to respectively present Furiosa: A Mad Max saga And Horizon: An American Sagatwo films selected out of competition by the festival.

Cannes 2024: Horizon, by and with Kevin Costner, will be screened on the Croisette
