Emilia Perez to represent France at the Oscars
The CNC commission has chosen Jacques Audiard’s musical comedy event to be in the running for Best International Film.
The decision has just been made: it is therefore Emilia Perez of Jacques Audiard which will be the French film candidate for the 2025 Oscar for international feature film. The dedicated commission within the National Center for Cinema and the Animated Image (CNC).
Emilia Perez was therefore chosen between the drama shot in India All We Imagine as Light by Payal Kapadia, the blockbuster The Count of Monte Cristo by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, and Mercy by Alain Guiraudie. “The four finalists selected by the commission, all supported by the CNC, attest, through the extreme variety of their stories and their production, to the vitality but also to the diversity of French cinema and the effectiveness of the ecosystem that underpins it.”declared Olivier Henrard, interim president of the CNC, in a press release.

Presented at the last Cannes Film Festival, the musical comedy dedicated to a Mexican cartel leader who decides to change his sex and his life received not only the Jury Prize but also the collective Best Actress Award for all the actresses, a collective award for its four actresses: Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez And Adriana Paz. Emilia Perez brought together more than 760,000 spectators in France.
