Melissa Barrera defended by her Scream colleague: “It’s very unfair”
Hayden Panettiere supports the actress, considering her ouster as “very unfair and upsetting”, even if she says “not to worry” about her future.
The star of the series Heroes, Hayden Panettierespoke about the dismissal of Melissa Barrera of the new saga Scream. She expressed her support and her incomprehension about his ouster.
Melissa Barrera was, no more, no less, the new headliner of the new film series Scream. She played Sam Carpenter in Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), a heroine close to her sister, played by Jenna Ortega (who also did not fail to follow her towards the exit door). The two starlets slammed the door and will not appear on the poster of Scream VII. The reason for this turnaround? Melissa Barrera took a stand in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Her comments quickly caused a scandal within Spyglass production, which judged the young actress’s remarks as “anti-Semitic“.
Spyglass told Variety in mid-November 2023: “We have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, distortion of the Holocaust, or anything that crosses the line hate speech.”
This dismissal had a snowball effect, leading to the departures of Jenna Ortega and from the director assigned to the project, Christopher Landon. Melissa Barrera defended herselfaffirming that his support for Palestine was not an anti-Semitic approach, and today, it is one of the stars of the saga who reacts in turn.
“After she spoke, a handful of actors and celebrities spoke up, right? It was like she did it too soon“, said Hayden Panettiere in an interview with The Messenger.
Hayden Pannettiere was herself part of the cast of the screaming horror franchise, in 2011 in the fourth part. The actress returned to the skin of her character, Kirby Reed, in the last episode of the saga with Melissa Barrera And Jenna Ortega.
“You know, there’s a lot of people didn’t even ask her how she felt“, declared the ex-star of Heroesadding that Melissa Barrera thanked her for coming.
Hayden Pannetiere “don’t worry” of the future of her colleague: “Melissa is a badass as a human being and an actress… She was hurt, but I think she took the scandal in stride and was very, very dignified about it.“
Scream is currently at a standstill.
