The black glasses come out of the drawer.

Sony is putting the “flashouilleurs” back on the road: the studio has entrusted the writing of a Men in Black 5 to Chris Bremner, the screenwriter of the last two opuses Bad Boysnamely Bad Boys For Life And Bad Boys: Ride or Die. A way to capitalize on the success of the saga Bad Boyswho recently gave Will Smith a winning return.

The whole question is whether Will Smith will be back alongside Tommy Lee Jones in Agents J and K. Nothing is confirmed for the moment.

But the presence of Bremner could weigh in the balance, he who also signed Fast & Looseaction film starring Will Smith currently in production for Netflix.

Sony is clearly attempting a controlled relaunch of the saga, after the relative failure of Men in Black: International (2019) with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, which brought in “only” $253.9 million for a budget of more than 100 million. Despite this poor performance, the franchise remains one of the studio’s treasures: more than 1.9 billion dollars accumulated at the box office.

Released in 1997 in the wake of Independence Daythe very first Men in Black had given birth to a legendary duo – Smith/Jones – and two sequels in 2002 and 2012.

For now, Men in Black 5 does not yet have a planned release date.
