Mufasa: The Lion King should be both a sequel and a prequel
It’s Rafiki who will tell the story of Kiara’s grandfather through flashbacks…
It will undoubtedly be one of the events of 2024 in cinema and probably one of the very big box office hits. But what will we talk about? Mufasa: The Lion King ? A prequel to the cult Disney film, it will look back on the youth of Simba’s dad, alongside his brother Scar. Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will voice the young characters.
And according to What’s On Disney Plus (via The Hollywood Handle) a new synopsis has leaked. And it says a lot!
“The film will follow the rise of one of the greatest kings of the Pride Lands. We return to the savannah where Rafiki tells Kiara – the daughter of Simba and Nala – the story of her grandfather, with some comments coming from of Timon and Pumbaa as a bonus”.

If we are to believe this little summary, Mufasa: The Lion King will not just be a prequel. It will first start as a sequel to Lion Kingto better go back in time with flashbacks.
Thus, we will find in the cast Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner and John Kani who will all reprise their roles of Pumbaa, Timon and Rafiki. five years after the phenomenal success of Jon Favreau’s first opus: 1.6 billion dollars at the box office!
Directed by Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King will be released on December 18, 2024 in theaters in France.
