Richard Linklater films the new wave in action: trailer

The film tribute to the filming from breath, at the end of the 1950s, will be released in France in the cinema in early October.

“They want the new wave? Let’s give them a tidal wave!”

After a first teaser unveiled during the Cannes, where the film was presented in competition, Netflix – which distributes the film in the USA – has just put online a new official trailer for New wavefrom the American filmmaker Richard Linklater, a real declaration of love to Jean-Luc Godard.

The director of Boyhood tells here the mythical shooting ofOut of breath (1959) and the flamboyant beginnings of the movement that was going to upset world cinema: the new French wave.

Shot in 35 mm black and white by the leader operator David Chambille, the film features Guillaume Marbeck in the skin of Jean-Luc Godard, Aubry Dullin in Jean-Paul Belmondo and Zoey Deutch in Seberg John, the American icon which has become a muse of the current.

Linklater depicts a young criticism at the Cinema notebookshis stormy relationship with producer Georges de Beauregard, who almost abandoned the filmmaker’s eccentric methods, as well as his complicity with the other figures of the new wave: François Truffaut, Jacques Rivette, Jean-Pierre Melville (who came to make a cameo in Out of breath). The film also explores the director’s complex relationship with Jean Seberg, which he refused to deal with like a Hollywood star, and the ease with which he directed the facetious Belmondo.

Turned almost entirely in French, with very few dialogues in English, New wave pays tribute to a generation of visionary filmmakers – from Claude Chabrol to Agnès Varda, via Éric Rohmer – whose influence marked in depth the New Hollywood, from Martin Scorsese to Brian de Palma and Quentin Tarantino.

New wave will be distributed by Netflix in the United States. He will be out in streaming on November 14 across the Atlantic, but will still be entitled to an outing in American theaters on October 31, in order to be able to compete in the Oscars.

In France, New wave will be released at the cinema on October 8. He will not arrive until later on Netflix.
