Second best start of the year in France for Zootopia 2

The American animated film was a hit on its first day in theaters this Wednesday. Jodie Foster and Emma Stone can’t keep up.

As expected, the animals give no quarter!

Nine years after the first part, Zootopia 2 makes a thunderous debut in French cinemas. Quite simply the second best start of the year: Judy and Nick attracted almost 260,000 spectators in more than 640 cinemas for their first day in our theaters. It’s a little less than Demon Slayer: The Infinite Fortress which reached 340,000 admissions in the spring (helped by 135,000 previews) and as many as Disney Lilo & Stitch (263,000 entries but with more AVP).

When it was released in 2016, Zootopia had launched on 647 screens and achieved almost as many, with 350,000 admissions on the first day (including 125,000 previews). In its first week (February 17 to 23, 2016), it attracted 1.6 million spectators. In the end, the film had accumulated around 4.7 million admissions in France. Zootopia 2 left to do less well.

Just behind the American cartoon, we find Privacy. Rebecca Zlotowski’s police comedy takes second place in the ranking. Jodie Foster in French attracted nearly 37,000 curious people in 400 rooms.

Finally, on the podium, we find Bugonia by Yórgos Lánthimos: 17,000 admissions for 210 screens. A good average, which offers a decent launch for the Greek director, in his usual waters: Kinds of Kindness in 2024 had a first day of around 7,000 entries. For Poor creaturesit was 36,000 admissions (including 15,000 previews) in 2023. Remember that its record dates from The Favoritewhich had passed 600,000 spectators.
