Shania Twain will also be entitled to her musical biopic
The film project dedicated to country-pop legend Shania Twain reaches an important milestone: Sony Pictures has found the filmmaker who will chronicle the rise of one of the most popular artists of her time.
She was (a bit) the Taylor Swift of the 1990s, all things considered.
Pop-country star of the time, Shania Twain will be entitled to her biopic. Leah McKendrick has been tapped to write and direct the film, which will simply be titled Shania.
The feature film will look back on the life and career of the Canadian singer, five times Grammy Award winner and author of hits that have become essential such as Man! I Feel Like a Woman! Or You’re Still the One. For the moment, no details about the plot have been revealed. She has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide throughout her career.
Leah McKendrick is still little known to the general public, but her popularity continues to rise in Hollywood. Actress, screenwriter, director and singer, she particularly stood out with Scrambleda comedy that she had both written, directed and performed, praised by critics upon its release. His next production, the romantic comedy Voicemails for Isabelle starring Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson, will launch on Netflix on June 19.
Other notable information: Shania Twain herself will participate in the project as a producer alongside Amie Karp, which suggests that the film will benefit from privileged access to the personal history of the artist.
This new project is part of Sony’s strategy, which has increased its number of musical biopics in recent years. The studio had notably produced Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody in 2022 and is currently preparing Sam Mendes’ gigantic Beatles project, made up of four separate films.
No release date has yet been announced for Shania.
