Jason Blum explains his reasoning in an interview with EW: “The only thing that really scares me is Taylor Swift ! We had the incredible date of Friday, October 13, the best possible date to release a horror film.” But given the release of the pop-country singer’s film, it was decided to bring forward the release by a week (October 6 in the USA). “Obviously, we abandoned that date and bowed to Taylor Swift.”
He still tried the tag #Exorswift on Twitter, to try to create the same phenomenon as Barbenheimer, hoping that one success would lead to the other. But “it was too risky to see if ‘Exorswift’ would catch on or not“, he concludes.
The Exorcist: Devotion will be released in France on October 11.
