The Forest Hills: Shelley Duvall’s latest film unveils its trailer

The actress, known worldwide for her role in The Shining, who recently passed away, came out of retirement for this independent horror film.

At its origin, it was a surprising comeback that no one expected. In 2022, twenty years after his retirement and his last appearance on the big screen in Manna From Heaven, Shelley Duvall – horror icon of Shining and muse of Robert Altman (Nashville, Popeye…) – announced her return to cinema in a small independent horror film, a genre that has eternally immobilized her in the heritage of terror. Having died last July, the actress is now posthumously starring in The Forest Hillswhere she plays a mother who is far from friendly with her children…

His son, Rico, played by Chiko Mendez, is estranged. During a hike in the mountains, he injures his head. That’s when the nightmare begins. He begins to have visions, to hear voices. Madness takes over him while his friend, Billy, played by Edward Furlong (John Connor in Terminator 2) takes advantage of his weakness to make him believe that he is becoming a werewolf… Sensitive souls should abstain, because the beasts that roam these woods are thirsty for blood and it is a real massacre that looms in the trailer, when his animal nature awakens.

To make matters worse, her relationship with her mother is far from ideal. More than just a cameo, Shelley Duvall plays this “Mom” unfriendly, chaining together packs of cigarettes and reminding her son of the time she locked him in the car with his sister. What happy memories…

Last May, the actress revealed to New York Times that she had been thinking about returning to the big screen for some time, and that the director’s insistence from The Forest HillsScott Goldberg, pushed her to accept. For him, it was a dream come true. Now moving around in a wheelchair, everything was made easier for Shelley Duvall – the character was rewritten where necessary and the filming was done close to her home.

Regarding the horror that the film has in store for the audience, Scott Goldberg explained to Blood Disgusting that no CGI was used for the transformation scenes. So expect to see a werewolf come to life with nothing but makeup:

“There are no digital effects for the transformation sequences, because we grew up watching movies from the early 80s that created horror with special effects done on camera.”

Tea Forest Hills will be released in the middle of Halloween, on October 4 in the United States before being directly available for purchase in the country.
