The Griffins have definitely killed a character from the series!
“It was a lot of work for our teams …”
Family Guy says goodbye to one of his most demented characters – and this time, it’s final.
In an interview with TVline, producer Aleck Sulkin confirmed that Ernie, the famous yellow chicken who was fighting regularly with Peter Griffin, is indeed dead. His disappearance took place in episode 5 of season 23, “The Chicken Or The Meg”.
In this episode, Meg begins a relationship with Nugget, Ernie’s son. The volatile then gives an ultimatum to Meg: cutting the bridges with Peter, or giving up his son. Faced with Meg’s refusal, the scene turns to carnage: it comes out with the beheaded head of Ernie, her body still running behind her.
If Ernie was already “died” several times during her cartoony fights with Peter, Sulkin assures that this time, this end is final: officially, in the history of the Griffin, the chicken is no longer. He justifies:
“I think that the chicken followed the path of all flesh … We have already pulled a lot of memorable sequences from his fights with Peter. They became difficult to surpass. It was a lot of work for our teams, and we may have simply reached the limit of what we could do with this character.”
Introduced from season 2 in the episode “da boom”, Ernie will remain as one of the most emblematic opponents of Peter Griffin.
