Why does Superman do not appear (yet) in season 2 of Peacemaker

The main difference between Marvel and DC Universe

Frank Grillo plays in Superman and Peacemaker. And he was one of Captain America’s enemies in the MCU. He is well placed to talk about it.

He was crossbon in front of Captain America in the MCU, he is now Rick Flag Sr. in Superman and also in the Peacemaker series, at the center of the new DC Universe. The actor Frank Grillo crossed the two universes, and he recently revealed what, according to him, really distinguishes Marvel from DC.

In the podcast The Morning After Pod, he explained that at Marvel, the Russo brothers – who directed him in Captain America: Civil War – often work on not completely finalized scenarios. “They are more comfortable with incomplete scripts, and they are adjusted during shooting. It is quite common in the industry”.

Conversely, James Gunn – The new Boss of DC Studios – proceeds differently for his DC projects:

“With James, everything was ready. All the scripts were written in advance. There was no need to tinker. His vision is clear: there is no film without scenario, and it must be as solid as possible before the first day of filming.”

Frank Grillo also highlights the difference in governance since at DC, Gunn is the boss:

“At Marvel, many people get their hands dirty. At DC, it’s James Gunn and Peter Safran, no one else decides. There is no extension committee, just two people who decide.”

An approach that also changes the experience of actors: on the one hand, a very collaborative process where the film is transformed as a way; on the other, a tightened direction, based on a locked text.

But for Grillo, there is no winner, only two ways to create:

“In 50 years, we will look back and we will say that these artists have invented a genre. They are all incredible … They just do things differently.”
