The new Rambo begins filming: first poster

It wasn’t his war… but he’s going back anyway.

My Colonel!

He goes to war for the first time. Noah Centineo collects Sylvester Stallone’s cult bandana in the film John Rambo from Lionsgate, which has just revealed its very first poster. A prequel whose production officially begins.

Currently filming in Thailand, between Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga and Kanchanaburi, we find behind the camera Jalmari Helander, director of Sisu and Big Game.

“When I was 11, I saw Rambo for the first time, and it changed my life. Rambo wasn’t just a film, it accompanied me growing up and was a determining influence in my desire to become a filmmaker,” he says. Before promising a more brutal, more earthy film: “A stripped-down, raw, real Rambo, a survival story about endurance, persistence, and lost innocence.”

This prequel will take place well before the events of First Blood, during Rambo’s years of service in Vietnam. The official pitch announces a dive into “the roots and experiences” that forged one of the “most enduring and complex” characters in action cinema.

On the casting side, Yao (Sinners), Jason Tobin (A Thousand Blows), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time), Jefferson White (Yellowstone) and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus) join the adventure.

And Sylvester Stallone in all this? He is not attached to the project at the moment. But the producers are leaving the door “open” to a possible appearance.

The Rambo saga has five films, the latest being Rambo: Last Blood in 2019.
