What is Terminal, the new Canal + comedy by Jamel Debbouze, worth? (critical)

Twenty years after the end of H, the sitcom made in Canal Plus returns to an airport setting. Good idea or hackneyed idea?

Ramzy Bedia who plays the idiot by spouting absurdities bigger than himself on a sitcom set, in front of an audience dying of laughter… No, we're not in 1998 and it's not the filming of the 72nd episode of H. Twenty-two years after the cult comedy, which notably revealed Jamel, Canal Plus is resurrecting the genre in France, starting this evening with Terminalin prime time.

Change of scenery, since the hospital gives way to a Terminal airport. This is where the crazy crew of a low-cost airline: Flywingz operates. Ramzy plays Captain Jack, but this time, without Eric. Co-creator and main actor of H, Eric Judor is not part of the trip. He leaves the orders to Jamel Debbouzeco-writer, co-producer and co-director of Terminal. So is it still funny 25 years later? Or is the public sitcom (with the canned laughs) definitely a genre of the past?

First observation: nothing has changed, or almost nothing, in terms of form. The schoolboy spirit remains. But if good jams are made in old pots, the series still relies on young authors. Paul Mirabel, Xavier Lacaille (Parliament), Angela Soup (HP) And Clemence Dargent (UFO(s))) lent their pen to make this Terminal. A crossing of generations that works, like the characters of Ramzy And Bérangere McNeese, at the two opposite ends of the spectrum, but who end up taming each other, while a host of luxury guest stars (Manu Payet, Kad Merad, Stéphane De Groodt, Camille Cottin…) animate each episode. New proof that the next generation of comedians is already on the trail, ready to take off.
