Where is the future Harry Potter TV series?
The boss of Warner Bros. says more about the huge project of repurposing JK Rowling’s books for HBO Max.
This time, they will explore the books in depth, forget nothing and stay as faithful as possible. Almost a year ago, Warner Bros. announced the launch of a construction site Harry Potter into a TV series, to boost the expansion of its streaming platform, Max. Where is the project in 2024?
A priori not very far… Channing Dungey, President of Warner Bros. Television, revealed today that the future series is still in progress but is still in its early stages of development. No showrunner, no director, no actor has been signed yet. In fact, we understand that Warner Bros. discuss with screenwriters to find the one who will have the right vision.
“We are in discussions with a number of different writers to determine who will be the person to lead this franchise for us.”
Dungey goes on to detail: “The first step for us is to figure out who the showrunner is going to be and once we sign that, we can then start having those conversations around casting. The tricky part is finding actors to play the first two books, where the children are younger, around 11 or 12 years old…”
The boss of Warner Bros. emphasizes that the rumors circulating around the casting are still just rumors and they are “inaccurate“.
All we really know, for the moment, is that the series Harry Potter will be a reboot of the films, which will take up the story of the books, adapting one novel per season, i.e. 7 seasons in total. And Rowling will be involved as a producer.
